CHEVROLET DONATES DAMAGED SANDY VEHICLES FOR FIRST RESPONDERS

Following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Chevrolet was faced with many vehicles that were damaged by wind and water on land or in the port. These vehicles were destined for the crusher, but Chevrolet took a different approach. Instead of demolishing the cars they sent the damaged vehicles to the Guardian Center in Perry, Georgia. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are used where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.

The water-damaged vehicles are expected to help provide a realistic environment to simulate real-world incidents and natural disasters for first responders to make accurate and quick responses to victims. Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used “in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises.”

DAVID MAUS CHEVROLET EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS COLLECT FOR THE CARING CROCS PROJECT

In February David Maus Chevrolet employees and customers took part in a food supply drive for a local Seminole County school, Crystal Lake Elementary, that needed help providing food for their lower income students. Everyone participated and we were able to deliver more than five full boxes of snacks and food to help build back up the supply in their food pantry.

The program at Crystal Lake Elementary is call The Caring Crocs Project . It was started in 2011 as a way to help families in need at the school.  After watching a segment on 20/20 which talked about a homeless family in need within Seminole county the school administration felt it was important to reach out to our own school community.  Students at the school have been identified over the years as needing food and clothing but once the program was initiated it opened the door to many families who never asked. These families are struggling for many reasons including current tough economic times so any help is so appreciated by them.

The program takes donated items including non perishable food, toiletries, school supplies and school uniforms. These donations come from the Crystal Lake families and staff as well as some local businesses.  Some businesses sponsor the program and through these donations the program is able to donate approximately four times a year to several families in need at the school.

In addition to food and toiletry donations they collect unwrapped toys to distribute to families in need for the holiday season.  It’s been a very beneficial program at the school and they hope to help many more families in need for years to come.

A NEW TWIST ON THE ICONIC CAMARO; CHEVROLET INTRODUCES SIRI IN 2013 MODELS

The 1960s were good to Chevrolet, especially the Camaro and Chevy is recapturing some of that magic in the all new 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The ZL1 is an iconic muscle car that brings performance and style to the road, making it the most advanced Camaro ever to hit the market.

The 2013 Camaro ZL1 offers a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine with a maximum speed of 180 mph for the coupe and 155 mph for the convertible model. According to Chevrolet, the ZL1 coupe equipped with the six speed manual transmission will go from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds. The convertible will do it in 4.2 seconds. The coupe will post a standing quarter mile time of 12.1 seconds at 120 mph. The convertible crosses the line in 12.4 seconds at 117 mph. The manual coupe’s top speed is a gearing and drag limited 180 mph. The convertible is governor limited to 155 mph. The coupe will pull 1.0 g of maximum lateral acceleration. The convertible pulls 0.98 g. For comparison’s sake, the most common SS Camaro coupe’s numbers are 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, a standing quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at 113 mph, a top speed of 155 mph, and only 0.90 g of lateral acceleration.

Chevrolet will be the first to get hands-free Siri integration in its Sonic and Spark models. Starting today,  iPhone-toting drivers on iOS 6 will be able to integrate Siri with the cars’ in-vehicle infotainment system, Chevrolet MyLink.

The integration will let roadsters make hands-free calls to iPhone contacts, play songs from iTunes, listen to and compose iMessages or text messages, and add appointments to their calendar.

In the Community: Pictures of Hope

International Photojournalist Linda Solomon teamed up with David Maus Chevrolet and volunteer mentors who took children ages 7 to 12 from the Coalition for the Homeless to teach them about photojournalism. The children were then instructed to take photos of what represented their hopes and dreams. The photos were then made into greeting cards. Thanks to David Maus Chevrolet employees and all the volunteers who participated in this great event.

The All New 2014 Chevy SS Outpaces the Rest of the Pack at the Daytona 500

Chevrolet introduced a V-8 rear-wheel drive performance sedan with the launch of the 2014 Chevrolet SS last weekend at the     Daytona International Speedway. The racecar version will make its debut this weekend at the Daytona 500 as the official pace car.

Being described as a four-door Corvette, the Chevy SS will have the same rear-wheel drive now found in the Camaro and Caprice police patrol vehicle. It expected to deliver 415 horsepower and accelerate from zero to 60 in five seconds. This will be the brand’s first rear-wheel drive sedan since 1996.

“The Chevrolet brand was largely built on the strength of rear-drive performance sedans, yet it’s been 17 years since we’ve offered one,” said GM’s North America president Mark Reuss. “The all-new Chevrolet SS fills that void.”

The car will be the first to offer Automatic Parking Assist, which provides hands-free parking help. Other features include a Bose nine-speaker sound system; push button start; StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control; forward collision alert; lane departure warning and rear-vision camera rear cross traffic alert.

The SS will pace all four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races during Speedweeks – The Sprint Unlimited, both Budweiser Duels and the Daytona 500. And, it will be one of Chevrolet’s three newest models to pace NASCAR’s races at Daytona International Speedway next weekend:

· 2014 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

· 2013 Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Drive4COPD 300

2014-Chevy Cruze Spy Photos

Worldcarfans.com reported a undercover spy shot of the all new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. Chevrolet started testing the next generation Cruze this winter and it is expected to be launched in the fall of 2014. It will be the first model based on GM’s new platform which is currently called D2XX.

General Motors has stated that the new Cruze will have “new exterior and interior styling, improved fuel economy and an improved compartment and more storage space.” To prepare for the new platform that will be used on other vehicles including the Equinox, and Volt, Chevrolet will be overhauling its plants in the United States by investing over $220 million.

David Maus Foundation Awarded Community Partner of Excellence

The David Maus Foundation was honored Monday night with a Community Partner Excellence Award given by the Central Florida Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. The David Maus Foundation donated $25,000 in 2012 during the 8th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation to help fund Camp Oasis, a camp for children with this physical condition.

The David Maus Foundation was founded in 2004 and since then has raised over $850,000 for local charities dedicated to children with life-threatening illnesses. Dr. Matt Leavitt of Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery has been a title sponsor of our premier golf event for the past five years.

Chevrolet Debuts New Advertising Campaign During 55th Annual Grammy Awards

Last night during the 55th Annual Grammy Awards telecast, General Motors Chevrolet debuted its new advertising campaign along with the new tagline “Find New Roads”. Another big change that viewers may ‘hear’ is a change in the voiceover talent – from Tim Allen to John Cusack.

The new advertising will have a focus heavy on product, featuring five current or soon-to-be-launched nameplates: the Volt, Spark, Sonic, Impala and Corvette. The brand plans to introduce 13 new or significantly updated products in various marketing this year.

“We have enjoyed and appreciated Tim Allen’s work for the Chevrolet brand,” the company said in a statement released to Forbes.com. “But with a new branding platform and new direction for our advertising, we felt it was best to use a new voice.

“We believe John Cusack’s voice and persona fit well with Chevrolet and the direction we are taking with our advertising.”

Cusack is best known for roles in movies including Say Anything, Con Air and Being John Malkovich. Born in Evanston, Ill, he comes from a family of actors, including his sister, Joan Cusack.
