Tell Us More About the Bowtie!

Behind every great logo is a story of how it came to be…or is there? How exactly did this familiar logo become the iconic bowtie shape? It seems that not even the big guys at Chevrolet know! Perhaps the most popular story, though, says that Durant was inspired by the wallpaper of a French hotel he was staying at in 1907.

What we do know, however, is that the signature Chevy bowtie emblem sported on the grill of every Chevrolet was first introduced back in 1913 and created by General Motors and Chevrolet co-founder, William Durant.

Over a hundred years later, the bowtie figure has transformed a few times throughout the course of its century lifetime, but it has only gotten better with age!

Apple CarPlay in a Chevy Spark at the WWDC

p

Recently at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, Apple displayed a Chevy Spark with their new product, CarPlay. CarPlay, like AirPlay and Apple TV, is a way to use your iPhone through a different medium—which, in this case, is your car.

The interface for CarPlay is very similar to that of an iPhone. It uses the same apps and the same voice for Siri, but CarPlay uses features that require don’t require you to look at or touch the screen as much, allowing you to focus more on the road.

By connecting your iPhone (versions 5, 5s, and 5c only) to the system via USB, you’ll be able to make phone calls, look up directions, read and write (or technically listen to and dictate) texts, listen to your music, podcasts, or iTunes Radio.

From the demonstration at WWDC, it looks like CarPlay will be a much safer way to use your phone on the road. It’s user-friendly, like most Apple products, and you can do many things verbally rather than having to briefly take your eyes off the road to press a button on your dashboard—or even worse, using your actual phone and being completely distracted from driving.

CarPlay will eventually be available in future Chevy models, as well as several other major car brands. Neither Apple nor Chevy have given a specific date for when their cars will be delivered with CarPlay already in them, but we can only hope that it’s going to be soon.

CHEVROLET DONATES DAMAGED SANDY VEHICLES FOR FIRST RESPONDERS

Following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Chevrolet was faced with many vehicles that were damaged by wind and water on land or in the port. These vehicles were destined for the crusher, but Chevrolet took a different approach. Instead of demolishing the cars they sent the damaged vehicles to the Guardian Center in Perry, Georgia. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are used where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.

The water-damaged vehicles are expected to help provide a realistic environment to simulate real-world incidents and natural disasters for first responders to make accurate and quick responses to victims. Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used “in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises.”

The All New 2014 Chevy SS Outpaces the Rest of the Pack at the Daytona 500

Chevrolet introduced a V-8 rear-wheel drive performance sedan with the launch of the 2014 Chevrolet SS last weekend at the     Daytona International Speedway. The racecar version will make its debut this weekend at the Daytona 500 as the official pace car.

Being described as a four-door Corvette, the Chevy SS will have the same rear-wheel drive now found in the Camaro and Caprice police patrol vehicle. It expected to deliver 415 horsepower and accelerate from zero to 60 in five seconds. This will be the brand’s first rear-wheel drive sedan since 1996.

“The Chevrolet brand was largely built on the strength of rear-drive performance sedans, yet it’s been 17 years since we’ve offered one,” said GM’s North America president Mark Reuss. “The all-new Chevrolet SS fills that void.”

The car will be the first to offer Automatic Parking Assist, which provides hands-free parking help. Other features include a Bose nine-speaker sound system; push button start; StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control; forward collision alert; lane departure warning and rear-vision camera rear cross traffic alert.

The SS will pace all four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races during Speedweeks – The Sprint Unlimited, both Budweiser Duels and the Daytona 500. And, it will be one of Chevrolet’s three newest models to pace NASCAR’s races at Daytona International Speedway next weekend:

· 2014 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

· 2013 Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Drive4COPD 300

· 2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series NextEra Energy 250

“Chevrolet is extremely proud to be a part of NASCAR’s season-opener by pacing all of the events at Daytona International Speedway,” said Jeff Chew, Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Racing. “In 2013, Chevrolet will launch 13 all-new or significantly redesigned products in North America.”

The 2014 Chevrolet SS will be available at David Maus Chevrolet in Sanford in the fall.
