Chevrolet Volt Tops Consumer Reports Owner-satisfaction Survey. Again.

It’s hard to make it to the top of Consumer Reports’ Owner-Satisfaction survey once.

How about two years in a row?

That’s exactly what Chevrolet Volt owners said when asked who they think is the best, and they did it in back to back years.

This time around a hefty 92% of Volt owners said they would buy their car again. That’s pretty impressive.

Keep in mind that Consumer Reports is as an independent organization beholding to nothing but the truth. That’s why what they say holds so much weight.

Rik Paul, Consumer Reports auto editor, said, “The Volt’s two year reign at the top of our satisfaction survey points to the continuing trend of owners’ enthusiasm for cars that are fuel efficient.” He adds, “especially as we see more and more hybrid and electronic models hitting the market.”

Consumers backed that statement up by showing high marks on other fuel-efficient models, including the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Prius, Prius C and the Nissan Leaf.

And speaking of Chevrolet’s, another model you may have heard of, the Corvette, topped the Sports Car category. Another huge bonus for the domestic brand. Overall, the survey included responses from owners of 350,000 vehicles.

The All New 2014 Impala-luxury And Style Redesigned

How does a legend that has been on the road for more than 50 years become the pinnacle of style, innovation and performance for the next generation?

The answer lies in the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

Impala has always been a flagship for Chevrolet but typically known for its presence in law enforcement. This coming year, Chevy has taken the iconic model to a new level. When it came time to re-invent the Impala, the result is a stunning version that’s only recognizable by its signature badge.

The 2014 Impala arrives Spring 2013, bringing with it some exciting new features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and crash- avoidance technologies like Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Alert. Safety features including ten standard airbags, among the most in its class.

Chevrolet’s latest MyLink radio debuts in the 2014 Impala. The in-vehicle entertainment system adds an eight-inch color display screen that is customizable. The system also adopts natural voice recognition, a first for Chevy.

Three direct-injection engine choices will be available to customers: a 3.6L V-6, a newly designed 2.5L four-cylinder and a 2.4L four-cylinder with fuel-saving eAssist technology that is estimated to deliver 35 mpg highway. All engines are matched to a six speed automatic transmission.

“We’ll build on the success the Impala nameplate has generated over its history,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. “We’ve added sophisticated design features, more technology and safety equipment, while conserving Impala’s current strengths like spaciousness and comfort.”

It’s also easy on the eyes. The new sleek and modern design gives a entirely new feel of luxury to the Impala. Sitting on standard 20-inch wheels, it maintains its power and confidence but provides efficiency and comfort to drivers.

The interior is described as “upscale, refined, and spacious” and not to mention quiet. The engineers of the Impala took great consideration into making the Impala a full drivers experience with a design that includes an instrumental panel flow around the cockpit, ergonomically placed controls, and rich chrome and wood accents.

With gas mileage on everyone’s minds, Chevrolet is addressing that concern with their launching of the all electric 2014 Spark.  This vehicle has many things going for it but its’ dash from 0-60 in less than 8 seconds and its’ ability to recharge (to 80 percent capacity) in about 20 minutes are both eye openers.

According to General Motors, the Spark EV is expected to “provide an EV range [that's] among the best in the business.”

“What we think customers will enjoy most is how fun the Spark EV is to drive, ” said Chuck Russell, chief engineer for the car.  He also says power is available at every stage of the drive. Chevrolet says it wants to provide an exciting option for customers  looking for an EV that’s as much fun to drive as it is environmentally responsible.

According to him, they have.

Note: Both the Spark EV’s motor and drive unit will be built here in the United States, making the vehicle the first of it’s kind in which these components have been made in America.

The 2014 Chevy Spark EV will make its public debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show and is scheduled to launch next summer in California markets.

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is considered by many the Happiest Place on Earth, but I’ll bet you didn’t know the connection between Disney and Chevrolet. Since 1999, Walt Disney World has operated a General Motors “GM” Test Track at the Epcot park. A subsidiary of General Motors, Chevrolet has always been the featured brand of the ride. Closed in April 2012 for an update, a team of GM designers and Disney Imagineers (they’re the guys who make the entertainment empire’s theme parks a reality) have been working together to redesign and rebuild the ride as the Chevrolet Test Track.

Opening on December 6th, GM has made some extensive changes to make the new ride even more impressive than before. The most notable alteration to the attraction is the name: Chevrolet gets exclusive billing at the new Test Track.  Before, all of GM’s lineup was involved, now only vehicles bearing the bow tie have a spot on the newly renovated renovated floor.

The GM Test Track’s new focus on Chevrolet is accompanied by an increased emphasis on vehicle design, which sets up an interesting hook for the attraction.  Guests will create a virtual concept car that will accompany them for the duration of their time at the attraction.

This is how it will work:

It begins with a line drawn on a computer console in the ‘pre-ride’ staging area.  That line is converted to a streamlined, three dimensional ‘speedshape.’  Further interaction involves balancing four performance attributes-capability, efficiency, responsiveness and speed to create a roughly sketched proto-vehicle.

Throw in some special software and something project manager and Imagineer Melissa Jeselnick referred to as ‘Disney Magic’ to fill the gaps.  That turns the guest input into a nifty, polished concept car–with a Chevrolet bow tie on the grille, of course.

Fans of the original GM Test Track will be pleased to know that the ride portion of the attraction, which hits speeds of up to 65 mph, remains unchanged.  The scenery, though, has received a substantial upgrade. “Incredible Crash Dummies’ style carts have been redone with fluorescent paint and a prominent Chevy logo. The movie Tron-like glowing panels give the track a futuristic, virtual-reality feel.

Once the track portion ends, guests will find out how their virtual car performed in a series of equally virtual tests that occurred during the ride.  Attendees can pit their concepts against against each other on video games-like simulation tables and create digital advertisements for their fantasy rides.

The Chevrolet Miray hybrid roadster was featured prominently in promotional renderings of the ride.  The 2014 Corvette will likely take center stage once it debuts in January 2013.

Although this forward -looking spirit will permeate the attraction, it’s layout was devised with change in mind.  Vehicles can be swapped in and out, and cosmetic changes in the future shouldn’t take long to complete.  GM design manager Jeff Mylenek adds that a ‘flex space’ built into the floor plan may allow for the display of a classic car or two down the road.

Both Disney and GM stress that the attraction was non-commercial at heart.  According to Mylenek, “The goal was to create a “strong story, great guest experience and a strong image for Chevrolet that would be timeless” rather than sell cars,”

Sears Home Improvement and David Maus Chevrolet Partnering Together

The local Sears Home Improvement Division in Lake Mary will be holding their vendor fair today and has asked local automotive stores to participate. David Maus Chevrolet has provided a new 2013 Camry and a new 2013 Spark for Sears employees to test drive. The fair will be from 10a to 6p and provides an opportunity for the employees to become aware of products provided by featured businesses.

GM announced today that it has kicked off production of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD bi-fuel pickups at its Fort Wayne, Indiana plant.  The pickups are now available for order by fleet and retail customers through Chevrolet and GMC dealers. 

“Customers are choosing our bi-fuel trucks because they provide the same high level of GM truck performance and versatility but can also help businesses control their fuel costs and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Ed Peper, General Motors U.S. vice president of Fleet and Commercial Sales.

The Silverado HD and Sierra 2500 HD Vortac are powered by a 6.OL V8 engine that runs on gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG) and switches between the fuels without affecting performance.

The bi-fuel option is priced at $11,000 above the suggested price of the base vehicle.
